Why it Matters
North Carolina’s agricultural economy has diversified far beyond its tobacco roots. With state-led investment in industries like swine, poultry, sweet potato technology, and agritourism, rural areas are thriving.
Launched in 2003, the NCDA&CS Agritourism Marketing Program helps farmers generate income, preserve farmland, and share agriculture in meaningful ways. Today, the opportunity is bigger than ever.
In 2024, the state welcomed over 40 million visitors and saw $36.7 billion in travel spending, showing record-breaking interest in rural tourism and local food experiences.
Agritourism plays a vital role in connecting people to food systems and building strong farm communities.
