Green Acres Farm of Orange County
Green Acres Farm is a working farm in southern Orange County, North Carolina. The property includes 18 acres of pasture, orchard and forest land, encircled by a perimeter trail for nature and fitness walks. We raise goats and hope to harvest hazelnuts from our young orchard in a few years.
Green Acres Farm of Orange County is the creation of Christine and Allan Green, former owners of Woodcrest Farm, now owned by their son Daniel and his wife, Liza. After retiring, Chris and Allan built a small chalet on land they had long called Woodcrest East, moved there in April 2020, and began the Green Acres adventure.
For the Greens, farming has always meant family farming; too small to be profitable within today’s commodity agri-business model. Our strategy is to develop niche markets: goats, a recently planted hazelnut orchard and farm stays, primarily RV overnight parking. These activities can coexist, use the land gently and remain economically practical for a family farm.
We look to the farms of the early 1900s as our model: small, multiuse and relatively self-sufficient. This aligns with our interest in historic farming methods, skills and rural life. We take great joy in sharing the heritage of the land, the breeds and the traditions unique to the Orange Grove area, where community and a welcoming open door are part of daily life.
